Puella Magi Madoka Magica anime rewatch

Recently binge-rewatched the Madoka Magica anime. Shouldn't be unusual for me considering I've seen the first 3 movies like... at least 5 times each this year. But I kind of forgot about some of the original anime, haven't seen it in a few years and the last time I watched it fully it was like a shitty DVD quality download. For anyone who doesn't know, the original anime was 12 episodes and they were later condensed into two movies.

I'd forgotten just how much stuff got removed between it and the movie remakes! Most of it from the first half or so of the anime, lots of character building scenes.

Fun thing I noticed about the blu-ray rip I'm watching is that the "witch runes" are translated when the witches' names are initially shown. Apparently it's a subtitle track so I can turn it off. Some of the Magia Record files I watched had this too (not sure if it's a fansub thing?)

Gertrud

Charlotte

Kirsten

Gisela

Elsa Maria

Oktavia von Seckendorff

Izabel

Patricia

Oktavia von Seckendorff (again)

Roberta

Kriemhild Gretchen

Walpurgisnacht

Lots of scenes were removed or changed, *probably* mostly to fit the anime into the length of two movies. I briefly talk about some in the spoilers below

The first immediate change is obvious, the intro flashback is removed.

The scene with Sayaka and Kyoko in the church played an unreleased, instrumental version of Sis Puella Magica that almost feels like it's mixing with Decretum, Sayaka's theme. I really think they should have kept it here

The scene where Homura threatens to kill Sayaka. Removed entirely from Movie 1.

Sayaka witching out into Okavia. I do actually really love She Is A Witch, which only plays here in the movie. Decretum is good but less impactful imo.
